A tale to two aspiring visionaries took the industry past obstacles and into the sun-lit lands of achievement and success. PETER YAU details the brand’s rise to market acceptance and beyond.


In 1980, Alex Yau and Tony Che founded Fixwell Display Systems Co., Ltd. with the vision to provide quality and reliable commercial refrigeration to the Hong Kong market. With the booming economy and population in Hong Kong during the late 70s and early 80s, the two young entrepreneurs leveraged their expertise, experience, and connection to venture into the world of commercial refrigeration.

Paving the Path

During this time in the late 70s, the two young aspiring visionaries met when Yau was contracted to service the products and refrigeration systems for Jimmy’s Co. Ltd., where Che led a sales team. They both foresaw the potential of the commercial refrigeration market and both equally valued professionalism and maintaining lasting client relationships. The two entrepreneurs soon realized a budding business opportunity between them by utilizing Che’s network and Yau’s expertise. In 1980, Fixwell Display Systems Co., Ltd was born.

Industry-leading Thinking

Holding on to the belief of quality over quantity, Fixwell reached out to Fukushima Industries Corporation, one of the leading commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers in Japan. These two brave young men, not speaking a word Japanese, ventured to Japan in hopes of bringing what they believed to be a more reliable refrigeration system to Hong Kong. Through months of negotiation and unwavering dedication, they were the first to become the sole distributor of this luxury brand in Hong Kong and Macau. By the time they acquired DCH, Wellcome, other reputable supermarkets and department stores as their recurring client, they knew they were one step closer to success and to revolutionize the industry.

As a testament of Fixwell’s work, they became the Asia Representative of Jordao Cooling System from Portugal since 2014. Jordao is one of the leading refrigeration equipment manufacturers in Europe. Having these 2 industry leading companies as working partners, Fixwell strive to introduce innovative products to Hong Kong and other Asia countries.

As Fixwell transformed over the years to meet the demands of changing consumer trends, it has too passed on these core values of relationship building and dedication to quality goods and services to its second generation management.

Fixwell acknowledges that as our world becomes more developed and sophisticated, standard-off-the-rack refrigeration systems is not enough, notes Yau.

“Our team often works closely with designers to identify upcoming trends and designs in order to create a positive consumer experience. We are open-minded, flexible, and collaborate well with designers and visionaries; whilst they form a creative design, we provide the technical know-how and the practical elements in order to bring their vision to life.”

“In today’s world of hyper consumerism and mass consumption, competitive pricing to outsell one’s product is an undeniable trend. However, what we have noticed in our experience is that generally the cheaper the product, the more defects and repairs it will likely to incur within a short period of time of operation. We believe in cultivating a long-term relationship with our client, whereby we insist on sourcing a higher calibre of products and parts in order to minimize the repairs and interruptions to our clients’ business.”
