Clear vision and a relentless drive toward perfection powered the rise of SRT Group to carve a niche for itself amidst Asia’s most discerning market.

“In the early to mid-1990s, with our training and experience from North America, we pioneered the first ‘real estate housing development model’ in GuangDong with our client developer from Hong Kong. It brought us recognition for being one of the first landmark ventures to explore China’s not-yet-existent real estate market,” says Edward Shen, founder of SRT Design Group.

“Our innovative planning and architectural prototypes were studied and replicated quickly in other GuangDong localities in cities like Guangzhou, Zhongshan and Donguan. Out-of-the-province developers also took the models we developed further up north to other provinces,” he adds.

“We shall continue to strengthen our management strategies with new innovative thinking and to harness and build up a board of directors with vitality and entrepreneurship.” – Edward Shen, Architect, Founder & Director

Best-in-Class Solutions

“The first decade of the new century saw China develop at a phenomenal speed. Real estate and associated urban fabric development prospered and flourished perhaps at too fast a pace with speculation rampant. This period of high growth also saw SRT turn in good profits and impressive turnover,” says Irene Lai – Group CEO, Director.

“We expanded our operations with new business joint ventures set up in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Bangkok, extended our scope of service to landscaping and interior design, and with projects covered as far as Karachi and Mauritius.

“Our widened scope of service strengthened by expertise of our joint venture partners, enabled us to offer much added value to our clients, long standing as well as new, with comprehensive and full-scope service. With the enhanced capacity of the firm, we strived to always ensure the most technically advanced, financially cost-effective, and market attractive products for our clients,” Lai explains adding that “realizing that the good days may not last forever, and the rude awakening to global warming and climate change, we overhauled ourselves for environmental and sustainable design.”

“We bought and took over an environmental and green consultancy company in 2014 to offer our clients total integrated approach to sustainable design and green built environment. We did not stop at design only, but diversified to facilitate projects for green financing, and green operations, and management. We also teamed up with a national level environmental agency and international research laboratories to explore forefronts of the industry as our way to the future.”

Against All Odds

Irene Lai, Group CEO, Director.

Highly speculative growth in the past 10-15 years with property prices continuing to escalate to unaffordable levels of the common people, the design industry and consultancy fees have taken a spiral down, and for that reason quality of service has fallen too, Shen notes.

“Clients now pay meagre fees for run-of-the-mill conventional services, and will demand engaged consultants to be forth-coming on innovative ideas in particular on marketing strategies and marketable product design.”

“Furthermore,” says Shen, “clients place the onerous task to secure eventual government approval for these innovative ideas (obviously not yet in the books of authority’s codes and regulations) on the consultants.”

“For the almost thirty years history of SRT, we have been developing business in the Greater Bay Area. Our development plan of the GBA is very much in line with the Belt and Road Initiative, which our company has embarked on for a number of years with joint venture set up in Thailand, and property investment in Cambodia. Currently we are in the process to explore more business opportunities in Cambodia not necessarily in design consultancy but business options where we may deploy our vast experience and resources in property development and construction into related industries and business. We are also looking at various resources and opportunities that we may tap on for green and environment related investments. We shall continue to strengthen our management strategies with new innovative thinking and to harness and build up a board of directors with vitality and entrepreneurship.”
