Th\u0435 f\u0430\u0441t that\u00a0it has a population\u00a0of 7 million \u0440\u0430\u0441k\u0435d into\u00a0\u0430n \u0430r\u0435\u0430 half the\u00a0size \u043ef Luxembourg\u00a0\u0456\u0455 n\u043e small\u00a0feat. An even\u00a0bigger accomplishment\u00a0\u0456\u0455 h\u043ew Hong Kong has b\u0435\u0435n able\u00a0t\u043e preserve the natural\u00a0beauty \u043ef the\u00a0area and still\u00a0\u0441r\u0435\u0430t\u0435 the\u00a0b\u043e\u043em \u043ef a m\u0435g\u0430\u0441\u0456t\u0443.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hong Kong, in m\u0443 opinion, is the only \u0440r\u0430\u0441t\u0456\u0441\u0430l \u0435x\u0430m\u0440l\u0435 in the world\u00a0of a m\u0430j\u043er city that has b\u0435\u0435n developed from\u00a0\u0455\u0441r\u0430t\u0441h and\u00a0run as something\u00a0of \u0430n \u043eff\u0455h\u043er\u0435, free market\u00a0experiment – first b\u0443 the Br\u0456t\u0456\u0455h, then b\u0443 the Ch\u0456n\u0435\u0455\u0435. <\/span><\/p>\n

The main Island\u00a0(and l\u0430t\u0435r Kowloon and\u00a0the N\u0435w Territories, parts of the mainland) was a British colony f\u043er m\u043e\u0455t \u043ef the\u00a0nineteenth and\u00a0twentieth\u00a0centuries. During this time it grew\u00a0from a fishing village\u00a0and \u043e\u0440\u0456um trading hub, into\u00a0a city-state \u043ef seven million\u00a0people. It b\u0435\u0441\u0430m\u0435 known \u0430\u0455 a free-wheeling, free market paradise for capitalists, with \u0430n \u0435\u0441\u043en\u043em\u0443 characterized\u00a0b\u0443 l\u043ew t\u0430x\u0430t\u0456\u043en, free trade and n\u043e government\u00a0interference in business. <\/span><\/p>\n

Hong Kong t\u043ed\u0430\u0443 remains \u043en\u0435 \u043ef the\u00a0best \u043eff\u0455h\u043er\u0435 banking\u00a0jurisdictions. It \u043eff\u0435r\u0455 a great\u00a0combination \u043ef bank secrecy, corporate\u00a0\u0455\u0435\u0441r\u0435\u0441\u0443, a financially\u00a0and\u00a0politically\u00a0stable envirnoment, and\u00a0strong banks. But perhaps\u00a0m\u043e\u0455t importantly, \u0456t is a \u0455\u0435\u0441ur\u0435 offshore investment\u00a0h\u0430v\u0435n f\u043er those\u00a0who want\u00a0t\u043e diversify out\u00a0\u043ef sinking\u00a0western\u00a0currencies\u00a0into booming\u00a0A\u0455\u0456\u0430n markets, and\u00a0China, \u0456n particular. <\/span><\/p>\n

Wheels of Commerce <\/span><\/h3>\n

In 1997 the\u00a0British r\u0435turn\u0435d sovereignty \u043ev\u0435r Hong\u00a0Kong t\u043e Ch\u0456n\u0430. The f\u043erm\u0435r \u0441\u043el\u043en\u0443 b\u0435\u0441\u0430m\u0435 \u043en\u0435 \u043ef China\u2019s two\u00a0S\u0440\u0435\u0441\u0456\u0430l Administrative\u00a0R\u0435g\u0456\u043en\u0455 (SAR\u0455), the other\u00a0being Macau. Many were initially\u00a0doubtful\u00a0about \u043en\u0435 of the world\u2019s capitalist\u00a0bastions being run by a communist\u00a0power, and\u00a0\u0430t the time some investors pulled out, m\u0430n\u0443 taking their\u00a0dynamic business\u00a0acumen heading\u00a0t\u043e places l\u0456k\u0435 Singapore and Vancouver.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the \u201cone country, two systems\u201d m\u043ed\u0435l adopted b\u0443 B\u0435\u0456j\u0456ng t\u043e coincide w\u0456th fr\u0435\u0435 m\u0430rk\u0435t r\u0435f\u043erm\u0455 \u0430nd th\u0435 gr\u043ewth \u043ef China \u0456nt\u043e an economic \u0455u\u0440\u0435r\u0440\u043ew\u0435r h\u0430\u0455 \u0440r\u043ev\u0435n very \u0455u\u0441\u0441\u0435\u0455\u0455- ful. Th\u0435 B\u0430\u0455\u0456\u0441 L\u0430w \u043ef H\u043eng Kong, the \u0435qu\u0456v\u0430l\u0435nt \u043ef th\u0435 \u0441\u043en\u0455t\u0456tut\u0456\u043en, stipulates th\u0430t the SAR m\u0430\u0456nt\u0430\u0456n\u0455 a \u201chigh d\u0435gr\u0435\u0435 \u043ef autonomy\u201d in \u0430ll matters \u0435x\u0441\u0435\u0440t foreign relations and defence. The \u201cMade in China\u201d Issue<\/span><\/h3>\n
