What if your healthcare provider didn’t just treat your physical symptoms, but also cared for your mind and spirit? For nearly 60 years, Evangel Hospital has been doing just that—offering a unique blend of medical expertise and compassionate care to the people of Hong Kong.

Founded in 1965 by Dr. Robert Chapman and Dr. Gordon Addington, the hospital began as a Christian medical ministry with a clear mission — To provide affordable, accessible healthcare to a community in need, in response to a lack of adequate primary healthcare services in Hong Kong during that era. One of Evangel Hospital’s greatest contributions to Hong Kong’s healthcare system has been its pioneering spirit in family medicine. In 1986, Evangel became the first accredited family medicine training centre in the city, which trained family medicine specialists to obtain qualifications in Australia and Hong Kong, shaping generations of family medicine specialists. Today, Evangel Hospital continues to serve with that same dedication, while adopting appropriate innovations to deliver the best care possible.

Dr. Billy Chui, Hospital Superintendent & Chief Medical Executive of Evangel Hospital.

“As a hospital with a strong focus on primary healthcare, Evangel aims to offer high-quality yet affordable medical services to enhance preventative healthcare for the public. Our vision from day one has been to preach God’s love and peace through holistic and compassionate healthcare” says Dr. Billy Chui, Hospital Superintendent cum Chief Medical Executive of Evangel Hospital.
While family medicine is at the heart of Evangel’s mission, the hospital has much to offer. They are equipped with around 20 specialities and various auxiliary medical services such as Chinese Medicine, Psychological Assessment and Counselling services. The hospital also carries the diagnostic tools, including MRI and CT scanners, Positive Emission Tomography (PET) Scan,  dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) machines for bone density testing and more. These medical technologies allow Evangel’s skilled team to catch health issues early, giving patients the best chance at full recovery.

“Evangel Hospital’s service doesn’t stop at physical health. We see healing as more than just treating the illness. It’s about helping people regain their overall well-being and peace of mind, so we ensure that each patient receives comprehensive care tailored to their unique needs.” explains Dr. Chui.In July 2024, Evangel Hospital took a major step toward increasing patient convenience with the launch of its mobile app. The app allows users to search doctors, schedule appointments, explore the latest health checkup packages, and apply for hospital membership—all from their phones. This innovation is designed to make healthcare management easier and more accessible, ensuring patients can stay on top of their health with just a few taps. “To further empower our patients, they can even check their medical records via their mobile app in the near future.”

As Evangel Hospital approaches its 60th anniversary in 2025, it’s not just looking back on its legacy, but also planning for the future. With redevelopment plans in the works to expand capacity and upgrade facilities, the hospital is set to meet the growing healthcare needs of Hong Kong. Yet, even as it grows, Evangel remains deeply committed to its founding mission of providing compassionate, holistic care. Through its Chaplaincy Service and volunteer team known as E-Angels, the hospital continues to support patients and their families—both within the hospital and in the community.
With its blend of innovative services, a dedicated medical team, and a commitment to healing both body and spirit, Evangel Hospital is poised to serve Hong Kong for many years, continuing its legacy of compassion, excellence, and faith. The Mediazone Group congratulates Evangel Hospital for winning the Hong Kong’s Most Valuable Companies 2025 Award on its 60th anniversary. We look forward to seeing the hospital’s continued growth and contributions to the well-being of people in Hong Kong.
