As the world grapples with escalating carbon emissions, GCDT stands at the forefront, offering innovative and customized energy-saving solutions that promise substantial economic benefits for clients while fostering a sustainable future.

Dr. Richard Chan, Chairman of Green Circle Decarbonize Technology Ltd

“GCDT’s mission is deeply rooted in the preservation of our planet. We design, develop, and implement bespoke energy-saving solutions, aligning with global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions, particularly in the wake of the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Climate Pact. These international accords highlight the urgent need for accelerated development and deployment of technologies that facilitate a transition to low-emission energy systems. GCDT’s strategic focus on decarbonization positions it as a crucial player in this global endeavor, providing practical and impactful solutions to industries worldwide,” says Dr. Richard Chan, Chairman of the company

Central to GCDT’s technological prowess is its wholly-owned operating subsidiary, BOCA International Limited. Established in 1992, BOCA has emerged as a global leader in Phase Change Materials (PCM) – substances capable of storing and releasing significant amounts of thermal energy during phase transitions. BOCA’s relentless dedication to research and development led to the invention of the patented BOCA Phase Change Material – Thermal Energy Storage (BocaPCM-TES). This ground-breaking technology is not only applied in Mechanical Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) projects but also extends to various temperature-controlled applications, from ultracold storage to thermal logistics. Furthermore, BOCA integrates artificial intelligence to optimize chiller plant operations, demonstrating a holistic approach to energy efficiency.

Revolutionizing Cooling: The Adiabatic Air-Cooled Chiller with Magnetic Oil-Free Compressors

Among BOCA’s most significant contributions to energy efficiency is its advanced range of chiller systems, with a special emphasis on the adiabatic air-cooled chiller with magnetic oil-free compressors. This innovative system, detailed in a technical report, represents a paradigm shift in cooling technology, offering unparalleled efficiency, reliability, and environmental benefits.

Adiabatic air-cooled chiller with magnetic oil-free compressors

Key Technological Advantages:
1.) High Efficiency and Energy Saving: The adiabatic air-cooled chiller with magnetic oil-free compressors boasts a suite of advanced technologies:

Magnetic Bearing Technology: This eliminates the need for lubricating oil, reducing friction and energy consumption. Magnetic bearings consume less than 0.4 kW, a fraction of traditional oil bearings, and their efficiency increases with higher rotational speeds.
Aerospace Aerodynamic Technology: Optimized aerodynamic design and a unique horizontal opposed two-stage compression structure enhance compressor efficiency. This design improves full-load efficiency by 4% and partial-load efficiency by 7% compared to conventional magnetic bearing centrifugal units, achieving an Integrated Part-Load Value (IPLV) of up to 11.5 under AHRI conditions, meeting national first-grade energy efficiency standards.
Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Technology: These motors offer high efficiency (above 0.96, up to 0.97) across all operating conditions, coupled with direct drive technology that eliminates transmission losses associated with gearboxes.
Full-Film Evaporation Technology: This innovative approach reduces refrigerant charge, significantly improves heat exchange efficiency, and enhances overall unit performance by ensuring uniform liquid distribution on heat exchange tubes.
Efficient Condensation Technology: An optimized condenser structure with high-efficiency heat transfer tubes and a pure counter-flow subcooling chamber further boosts heat exchange performance.
Advanced Throttling Control: The combination of multi-hole orifice plates and electronic expansion valves allows for precise refrigerant flow control, optimizing performance under varying load conditions and improving part-load efficiency and stability.

2.) Stability and Reliability: The oil-free design of these chillers dramatically enhances operational stability and reduces maintenance needs.

Oil-Free Operation: Eliminating lubricating oil prevents heat transfer losses caused by oil contamination in the refrigerant, ensuring consistent high efficiency over the unit’s lifespan.
Fewer Moving Parts: The direct-drive compressor, with only one moving part, significantly increases reliability by reducing potential points of failure.
Active Bearing Control Technology: This system uses high-frequency position detection and control to minimize vibrations and ensure precise shaft suspension.
Self-Generating Control Technology: In the event of a power outage, the motor automatically switches to generator mode, ensuring continuous power to the magnetic bearings and safe shutdown.

3.) Wide Operating Range: The chillers are designed for broad operational flexibility, capable of maintaining stable performance even at low cooling water temperatures (down to 12℃) and low cooling loads (below 10% for single compressors).

4.) Low Noise and Environmental Protection: With operating noise levels as low as 70dB(A), these units contribute to a quieter environment. They utilize R134a, an environmentally friendly refrigerant with zero ozone depletion potential, aligning with the Montreal Protocol. The full-film evaporation technology also reduces refrigerant charge, further minimizing environmental impact.

5.) Simplified Maintenance and Cost Savings: The oil-free design eliminates the need for routine oil changes, filter replacements, and oil system cleaning, drastically reducing maintenance costs and downtime compared to traditional chillers.

GCDT’s recent listing at the NYSE American is not merely a financial milestone; it is a testament to the company’s innovative spirit and its critical role in the global decarbonization movement. With BOCA International Limited leading the charge in developing advanced, energy-efficient chiller systems like the adiabatic air-cooled chiller with magnetic oil-free compressors, GCDT is well-positioned to drive significant environmental and economic impact. Investors and partners can look forward to a future where sustainable technology and financial growth go hand-in-hand, powered by GCDT’s commitment to a greener tomorrow.
According to Dr. Chan, this innovative chiller is specifically designed to operate at very high ambient temperatures, up to 55°C, offering ultra-high efficiency. This is a significant advantage, as most existing air-cooled chillers typically shut down when ambient temperatures exceed 40°C. Furthermore, the new chiller delivers chilled water with a large delta temperature (6/16°C CWS/CWR), which immediately improves the overall chiller efficiency by more than 10%. It also provides a +6°C integration with a chilled water thermal storage system, utilizing the company’s +8°C BocaPCM-TES.
An AI system is also integrated into this new chiller, complete with variable speed chilled water pumps. The primary advantage of the BocaPCM-TES is its ability to prepare chilled water during off-peak hours for discharge during peak hours. In countries like China, there can be a 300% difference in electricity tariffs between on-peak and off-peak periods, leading to major savings in running costs. In conclusion, this new chiller is projected to reduce power consumption by 30-70% and water consumption by 90% compared to a water-cooled chiller plant.

The condensing air temperature in this new chiller will be sub-cooled with an Adiabatic cooling layer before entering the refrigerant condenser. As a result, the Adiabatic cooler further improves the overall efficiency by approximately 10%. The first prototype chiller has been manufactured and factory-tested to meet international standards, achieving an overall chiller efficiency (COP) of 4.8 during testing.
